Program Keys and Remote Controls

Your Toyota Yaris keys and remote controls may require reprogramming or battery replacement over time. This guide explains how to program the remote and replace the coin-cell battery for both types of remotes – with and without keyless entry.

Programming the Remote Control

⚠️ This procedure requires the use of diagnostic equipment.

  1. Connect the diagnostic tool to the vehicle.

  2. Follow the step-by-step instructions shown on the device screen.

Replacing the Battery – Remote with Keyless Entry

  1. Press and hold the release button to remove the mechanical key.

  2. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot and carefully remove the protective cover.

    • ⚠️ Do not use excessive force.

  3. Take out the old coin-cell battery.

    • ⚠️ Avoid touching the metal contacts.

  4. Insert a new coin-cell battery with the positive side facing up.

  5. Refit the cover and reinsert the key.

  6. Test the remote to ensure it works correctly.

Replacing the Battery – Remote without Keyless Entry

  1. Use a small screwdriver to remove the protective cover.

    • ⚠️ Do not apply too much force.

  2. Insert a coin into the slot to open the battery compartment.

  3. Remove the old coin-cell battery.

    • ⚠️ Avoid touching the pins inside.

  4. Place a new coin-cell battery with the positive side facing up.

  5. Reassemble the cover.

  6. Test the remote control.

⚠️ Tip: Always use the correct battery type recommended for your Toyota Yaris remote.
