Home/Peugeot/1007/A0 (2005–2011)/Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

These instructions apply to the Peugeot 1007 A0 (2005–2011). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Peugeot 1007 (2005–2011) uses a 12 V battery to power its electronic systems. Disconnecting the battery may be necessary for maintenance, electrical work, or long-term storage. Reconnecting it correctly is important to avoid ECU errors and to restore comfort features such as electric sliding doors and service indicators. Follow this safe step-by-step guide.

Before You Start

  • Park on level ground, switch the ignition OFF, and remove the key.
  • Wait at least 3 minutes to allow control units to shut down fully.
  • Wear gloves and eye protection.
  • Have a 10 mm wrench or socket ready for the terminal clamps.

Battery Location

  • The battery is located in the engine bay, under a protective cover near the front.
  • Remove the cover to access the positive (+) and negative (–) terminals.

How to Disconnect the Battery

  1. Switch everything off, including lights and accessories.
  2. Loosen the negative (–) terminal clamp first and move it aside.
  3. Loosen the positive (+) terminal clamp and remove it.
  4. If removing the battery, undo the hold-down bracket and lift carefully — it is heavy.

How to Reconnect the Battery

  1. Place the battery in the tray and secure it with the hold-down bracket.
  2. Reconnect the positive (+) terminal first and tighten securely.
  3. Reconnect the negative (–) terminal and tighten.
  4. Replace the protective cover over the terminals.

After Reconnecting

  • Re-initialize the electric sliding doors.
  • Reset the service indicator if required.
  • Reprogram the key remote if it no longer locks/unlocks.
  • Reset the clock and radio presets.

Safety Notes

  • Always disconnect the negative (–) first and reconnect it last.
  • Never touch both terminals with a tool at the same time.
  • If you see repeated warning lights after reconnecting, drive the car for a short trip — most ECUs re-learn automatically.
