On the seventh-generation Honda Accord (CL/CM, 2003–2008), disconnecting the battery, running it flat, or pulling the driver’s window fuse switches off the one-touch AUTO function on the driver’s window. The glass still moves while you hold the switch, but it won’t run on its own until you re-initialise it. Here’s how.
Before you start
- Have the engine running before you begin.
- Use the driver’s own window switch — this is the only window that resets this way.
- Check nothing is resting in the window channel or across the glass path.
Resetting the Auto Window — Step by Step
- With the engine running, press and hold DOWN on the driver’s window switch until the window is fully open. Release the switch.
- Pull the same switch UP to close the window completely, and keep holding it for a second or two after the glass has fully shut. Release it — the AUTO up and down function is now restored.
If Auto Still Doesn’t Work
- The most common miss is letting go too soon at the top — hold the switch up for that extra second or two after the window has fully closed, then try the sequence again.
- Remember only the driver’s window is designed to auto-reset on this Accord, so don’t expect the same result from the passenger switches.
- If the window won’t move at all, check the driver’s-window fuse before assuming a bigger fault; a pulled or blown fuse disables the whole function.
- If the glass rises then drops back down, the pinch-protection is reacting to an obstruction — clear the channel and repeat the close-and-hold step.

Why did the auto window stop working after my battery went flat?
The Accord stores the window’s travel limits in memory that relies on a live 12V supply. A flat or disconnected battery wipes that memory, so the car disables one-touch operation until you teach it the fully-open and fully-closed positions again.

No. On this generation only the driver’s window has the documented one-touch AUTO reset. The passenger windows work by holding their switches and don’t require this procedure.
The window goes up then comes straight back down — why?
That’s the anti-pinch safety reacting to resistance in the channel, often dirt, a worn seal, or something across the glass. Clear the path, then repeat the close-and-hold step so the window can reach the top uninterrupted.
Do I really need the engine running to reset it?
Yes — start the engine first. A running engine keeps voltage stable through the reset, which is important right after a battery disconnect when the electrical system may otherwise be marginal.
