The Kia cee’d Mk1 (ED, 2007–2012) fitted with Stop & Start (ISG — Idle Stop & Go) shuts the engine off at a standstill to save fuel and restarts it as you pull away. If you’d rather it stayed running — in heavy traffic, when manoeuvring, or before working under the bonnet — switch it off with one button.
Where the Button Is
The ISG OFF button is in the switch panel low on the dashboard, to the right of the steering column.
How to Turn ISG Off
- With the engine running, press the ISG OFF button once.
- The ISG OFF indicator lights and the system is switched off.
- The engine now stays running at a standstill until you switch ISG back on.
How to Turn ISG Back On
Press the ISG OFF button again, or simply restart the car — ISG defaults back on each time you switch the ignition off and on, so it is never left off permanently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ISG stay off after I restart the car?
No. Stop & Start returns to its default ON state every time you start the car, so press ISG OFF again if you want it off for that trip.
Why won’t my engine stop at the lights with ISG on?
ISG only stops the engine once conditions are met — engine warm, battery well charged, climate demand low, and the car fully stopped with the seat belt fastened and the door closed. It also won’t work for a while after a battery change until the battery sensor re-learns.
Is it bad to switch ISG off?
No. The button simply keeps the engine running and affects nothing else. Many owners turn it off in stop-go traffic and back on for open-road driving.
