When the Intelligent Key battery in your Nissan Murano (Z52, 2015–2020) runs low, a Key battery low message appears in the vehicle information display and the remote range drops. Replacing it takes a minute with a common CR2032 coin cell and a small screwdriver — no dealer needed.
Before You Start
- Battery type: CR2032 (3-volt lithium coin cell) or equivalent.
- You need a small flat screwdriver — wrap the tip in cloth to protect the case.
- Note the orientation of the old cell before you lift it out.
How to Replace the Battery
- Slide the mechanical key blade out of the Intelligent Key (release the catch and pull it free).
- Insert a small screwdriver into the slit at the corner where the blade sat, and gently twist to separate the upper and lower halves of the case. Keep a cloth over the tip so you do not mark the casing.
- Lift out the old CR2032. Handle the new cell by its edges only — fingerprints across the flat faces drain it.
- Fit the new CR2032 with the + (positive) side facing the bottom of the case (the side away from the buttons).
- Close the case until the seam clicks shut all the way round.
- Refit the mechanical key blade.
- Press a button to check the indicator light, then test lock and unlock.
Do not touch the internal circuit board or the metal terminals — it can cause a malfunction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which battery does it take? A CR2032 — a 3-volt lithium coin cell sold in any supermarket or hardware store.
Which way up does it go? The positive (+) side faces the bottom of the case, away from the buttons.
The remote is still weak after a new battery — why? Check the + orientation and that you did not touch the contacts. If range is still poor, the key may need re-synchronising at a dealer.
Will the car still start if the key is dead? Yes — touch the key to the push-button start and the immobiliser reads it by contact. See our dead Intelligent Key guide.
