If the remote locking on your Mitsubishi L200 has become weak or stopped working, the key fob’s button cell is usually flat. It is a quick swap you can do yourself with a small screwdriver and a fresh CR1616 cell.
How to replace the key fob battery
- Have the correct new cell ready: a CR1616 3-volt coin cell.
- Find the seam around the fob and carefully separate the two halves of the case with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
- Lift out the old button cell, handling it by the edges.
- Fit the new CR1616 with the positive (+) side facing up, as the old one came out.
- Clip the two halves of the case back together and check the remote locks and unlocks the car.
Good to know
Use a fresh, good-quality CR1616 and avoid touching its faces with bare fingers, as skin oils shorten cell life. If the remote still does not work with a new cell, the fob may need re-programming — see our key fob programming guide.
Frequently asked questions
What battery does the Mitsubishi L200 key fob take?
A CR1616 3-volt lithium coin cell. Fit it with the positive side facing up.
Do I need to re-programme the fob after changing the battery?
No — a battery change alone does not wipe the fob’s coding, so it should work straight away. Re-programming is only needed if the remote has lost its pairing.
If the car shows a warning after the fob stops working, you can look up what the specific dashboard symbol or fault code means on autodtcs.com.
