The Fiat Talento (2016–2021) is Fiat’s version of the Renault Trafic, so it uses the same dashboard service reminder — a distance-to-service countdown you clear from the instrument panel after an oil and filter change. No tool is needed; it’s two buttons and about a minute with the ignition on.
The Talento was Fiat’s badge-engineered version of the Renault Trafic III, built from 2016 until Fiat Professional withdrew it in 2021; it revived the ‘Talento’ name Fiat had last used on a small van in the early 1990s.

Do the Service First
Only reset the reminder once the service is genuinely done. The counter exists to tell you (and the next buyer) when the oil is due, so zeroing it early just hides the real interval.
Reset the Talento Service Indicator

- Switch the ignition on without starting the engine — the dash should light up.
- Use the trip-computer scroll button to step through the readouts until you reach the service reminder — the distance-to-service screen (a Dutch-market cluster reads ‘AFSTAND TOT ONDERHOUD’) or the oil-change countdown (‘OLIE VERV OVER …’).
- Press and hold the reset button — after about 5 seconds the display shows the remaining distance to service.
- Keep holding for a further 10 seconds until the figure jumps back to the full interval — up to 40,000 km / 24 months on the diesel.
- Switch the ignition off, then back on to confirm the spanner symbol has cleared.
If It Won’t Reset
The two catches are selecting the right screen and holding long enough. If nothing happens, make sure the service readout (‘AFSTAND TOT ONDERHOUD’ or ‘OLIE VERV OVER’) is actually on the display before you hold the button, and keep it pressed for the full time — letting go early cancels it. A spanner that lingers after a correct reset usually means a separate time-based service item is also due.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Fiat Talento just a rebadged Renault Trafic?
Yes — the 2016–2021 Talento is Fiat’s version of the Renault Trafic III, sharing its running gear with the Nissan NV300 and Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro. Fiat dropped it in 2021 when it switched to the Stellantis (Peugeot-based) Scudo and Ducato range.
How do you reset the service light on a Fiat Talento?
Ignition on (engine off), scroll to the service readout (‘AFSTAND TOT ONDERHOUD’ / ‘OLIE VERV OVER’), then press and hold the reset button — about 5 seconds to show the distance, then around 10 more until it jumps to the full interval. Ignition off to finish.
How long is the Talento’s service interval?
After a correct reset the diesel’s oil-change reminder returns to as much as 40,000 km or 24 months, whichever comes first — that is why the counter shows a large figure straight after zeroing. Stick to whichever limit arrives sooner, and to any shorter interval in the service book for heavy or stop-start use.
Is the Fiat Talento the same as a Renault Trafic?
Mechanically yes — the Talento is a rebadged Trafic III and shares its instrument panel, so the service reset is the same. The Nissan NV300 and Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro of the same era use it too.
Do I need a diagnostic tool?
No. The Talento’s service/oil reminder resets from the dashboard buttons. Only reset it after the oil has actually been changed.
Why is the spanner still showing?
Usually the wrong readout was selected or the button wasn’t held long enough — try again on the service screen. If it persists, a separate annual service item may be outstanding.
