A dead 12 V socket, a silent radio or a single dark light is often just a blown fuse. The Yaris has two fuse boxes — one in the engine bay and one inside the cabin. Here is how to find the right box, read your own car’s legend, and swap a fuse safely.
Find and change a Yaris fuse

- Choose the box. The engine-bay fuse and relay box (right side of the bay, under a clip-off lid) carries the high-current and under-bonnet circuits. The cabin fuse box, behind a cover at the lower dash or kick panel, holds most interior circuits.
- With everything switched off, unclip the lid. The inside of the lid (and your owner’s handbook) carries the legend that maps each fuse to its circuit — always read your car’s legend, because assignments vary by engine, trim and market.
- Pull the suspect fuse straight out using the plastic puller clipped inside the box — never metal pliers.
- Hold it to the light: a broken or darkened metal strip means it has blown.
- Fit a replacement of the same amperage only (printed on the fuse and in the legend). A higher rating is never a fix — it removes the protection your wiring relies on.
- Push the new fuse fully home and refit the lid.
- If the new fuse blows again, stop. That circuit has a short and needs diagnosing, not another fuse.
The red flip-up cover in the engine-bay box is the +B jump-start terminal, not a fuse — leave it closed unless you are boosting a flat battery.
Frequently asked questions
Which fuse is the 12 V socket / cigarette lighter?
It sits in the cabin fuse box. Read the lid legend for a “POWER OUTLET”, “ACC” or socket symbol rather than guessing — the position differs between trims.
My Yaris has no power at all — is it a fuse?
A complete no-power is more often the 12 V battery (in the boot) than one fuse. Check the battery first, then the main fuses in the engine-bay box.
Can I fit a higher-amp fuse so it stops blowing?
Never. The rating is sized to protect the wiring; a bigger fuse lets the circuit overheat and can start a fire. Fix the cause instead.
If a warning light appears alongside the failed circuit, you can check the fault code on autodtcs.com.
