The passenger-compartment (cabin) air filter on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (K2XX, 2014-2018) sits behind the lower glove box and cleans dust and pollen from the air pulled into the cabin. Chevrolet lists it on the maintenance schedule, and you can change it yourself with just a screwdriver.

The cabin filter pulls out of a housing behind the lower glove box on the K2XX Silverado. Illustrative frame.
  1. Open the lower glove box door completely.
  2. Remove the four screws around the lower glove box — you don’t need to remove the door to reach them.
  3. Close the lower glove box door and pull the whole unit out of its frame.
  4. Release the two tabs holding the service door behind it, open the door and slide the old filter out.
  5. Fit the new filter, matching the airflow arrow on its frame to the marking in the housing, then close the service door and secure both tabs.
  6. Reverse the steps to refit the lower glove box.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the cabin filter on the Silverado?

Behind the lower glove box on the passenger side — there is no engine-bay or cowl access on the K2XX Silverado.

Which way does the filter face?

Match the airflow arrow printed on the filter frame to the direction marked in the housing. Fitting it backwards restricts airflow and can cause vent noise.

How often should it be changed?

Follow Chevrolet’s maintenance schedule — typically every 22,500 to 45,000 miles depending on conditions, and sooner if you drive in dust or heavy pollen.

Is it the same on the Sierra, Tahoe and Suburban?

Yes — the K2XX-platform GM trucks and SUVs (GMC Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon) use the same behind-the-glove-box filter and the same procedure.
