The Ford Kuga Mk2 (2013–2019) switches the engine off at idle to save fuel. You can turn Auto-Start-Stop off for a drive with a single button — it simply comes back on the next time you start the car.
How to turn off Auto-Start-Stop on a Kuga Mk2
- With the ignition on, find the Auto-Start-Stop button on the instrument panel — an “A” encircled by a rotating arrow.
- Press the button once. A message and an indicator in the display confirm the system is now off.
- The engine will stay running when you stop for the rest of the drive.
- To switch it back on, press the button again — or it re-enables automatically the next time you start the car.
It is normal for Start-Stop not to trigger when the engine is cold, the battery charge is low, the cabin is heating or cooling hard, or you are on a steep slope — the system decides when conditions suit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Auto-Start-Stop stay off permanently?
No — it re-enables at every ignition cycle, so press the button each time you want it off for that drive.
Why doesn’t the engine stop at the lights anyway?
A cold engine, low battery charge, strong climate-control demand or a gradient can all suspend the function.
Is disabling it bad for the car?
No. Turning it off simply keeps the engine idling; the starter and battery are designed for frequent restarts, and leaving it off does no harm.
If a Start-Stop or charging warning appears, you can look up the code on autodtcs.com.
