Citroen C4 Mk2 (2010–2018) models with Stop & Start switch the engine off at a standstill to save fuel. If you would rather keep the engine running — in heavy traffic, or while working on the car — you can switch the system off with one button.
How to turn off Stop & Start on a Citroen C4 (2010–2018)
- With the engine running, press the Stop & Start (“ECO OFF”) button on the dashboard or centre console.
- The warning light in the button or cluster illuminates to show the system is switched off.
- The engine will no longer cut out when you come to a stop.
The setting is not permanent — Stop & Start switches itself back on each time you restart the car, so press the button again at the start of any journey where you want it disabled.
Frequently asked questions
Does turning off Stop & Start harm the C4?
No. It simply keeps the engine running at a standstill, as an older car would. It is safe to leave on or off.
Why won’t my C4 auto-stop the engine?
Stop & Start only works when conditions are met — the battery must be well charged and the cabin at temperature. A tired 12 V battery is the most common reason it stops working.
If a Stop & Start or battery warning appears, you can look up the fault code on autodtcs.com.
