These instructions apply to the Tesla Model Y (2020-2024).

The wipers on a Tesla Model Y (2020–2024) rest low under the bonnet lip and have rain-sensing auto-wipe, so before changing the blades you put the car into Wiper Service Mode. This lifts the arms clear of the glass and disables auto-wipe so an arm can’t swing into your hand.
How to use Wiper Service Mode on a Tesla Model Y
- Put the car in Park.
- On the touchscreen, tap Controls > Service > Wiper Service Mode to enable it. The wipers move up and auto-wipe is switched off.
- Lay a towel on the windscreen under the arms to protect the glass.
How to replace the Model Y wiper blades
- Release the tab that holds each blade to its arm, and slide the old blade off.
- Fit the new blade onto the arm until the retaining tab shows and you hear an audible click.
- Repeat for the other side, then remove the towel.
- On the touchscreen, tap Controls > Service > Wiper Service Mode again to switch it off and return the arms to their parked position.
Blade sizes: the driver’s side takes a 26 in (650 mm) blade and the passenger side a 20 in (500 mm) blade. Make sure the new blade uses the same connector as the original, or it may not clip onto the arm.
Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my Model Y wipers lift off the glass?
They park below the bonnet lip and auto-wipe can trigger them. Enable Wiper Service Mode (Controls > Service) first to raise them and lock out auto-wipe.
What size wiper blades does a Model Y use?
26 in (650 mm) on the driver’s side and 20 in (500 mm) on the passenger side, with a matching connector.
Do I have to use Service Mode?
It’s the safe way — it stops the arms sweeping while your hands are on them and positions them for an easy swap.
If a wiper or washer warning appears afterwards, you can look up the fault code on autodtcs.com.
