Replace the Cabin (Pollen) Filter

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 1, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Citroën C3 Mk2 (SC/SR) 2009-2016.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

A clogged cabin (pollen) filter is the usual cause of weak airflow, misting windows or a musty smell in a Citroën C3 (2009–2016). On this car the filter sits in the engine bay, under the cover on the left of the windscreen (the scuttle/plenum), and swapping it is a straightforward owner job.

How to replace the cabin filter on a Citroën C3

  1. Open the bonnet and pull off the cover on the left of the windscreen frame.
  2. Open the filter retaining rack by pulling it towards you.
  3. Pull out the old filter (two parts) and fit the new one with the airflow arrows pointing down.
  4. Close the rack and refit the cover.

Fit a new filter every year or two, sooner if you drive in heavy traffic or dusty areas. Always match the airflow-direction arrow printed on the filter, or airflow and demisting will suffer.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the cabin filter on a Citroën C3?
In the engine bay, under the cover on the left of the windscreen (the scuttle/plenum).

How often should it be changed?
Roughly every 12–24 months, or at each major service — more often with high mileage or city driving.

If a climate or airflow fault light is on as well, you can look up the code on autodtcs.com.
