Find the Fuse Box and Change a Fuse

Blown a circuit on your Hyundai Tucson Mk3 (TL, 2015–2020)? This guide shows where both fuse boxes are, how to read the right one, and how to change a fuse safely. Fuse layouts vary by engine, trim and market, so the lid legend on your own car is always the final word.

The interior fuse box sits in the lower dash on the driver side, behind a clip-off cover. First-hand photo.

Where the Fuse Boxes Are

  • Interior fuse box — in the lower dash on the driver’s side, behind a clip-off cover below the steering wheel. This holds most cabin and convenience circuits (lights, windows, central locking, cluster, smart key).
  • Engine-bay fuse box — a large black box in the engine compartment, next to the 12 volt battery. This holds the high-current fuses and relays for the engine, cooling fans and charging system, plus the main fuses.

Read the Legend on Your Own Car

Hyundai Tucson TL fuse box cover legend, part 91941-D7640
The fuse-map legend printed inside the cover (part 91941-D7640 on the car shown) is the authority for your exact car.

The removable cover over each box carries a printed map of every fuse, its amperage and what it protects. On the Tucson the interior cover prints the layout on its inner face (part number 91941-D7640 on the car shown). Match the symbol or label to the slot before you touch anything — the exact positions differ between petrol and diesel cars and across trim levels, so no generic chart is reliable for your specific build.

How to Change a Fuse

  1. Switch the ignition and the affected circuit off.
  2. Open the cover and find the suspect fuse from the printed legend.
  3. Pull the fuse straight out with the plastic puller clipped inside the box — never use metal pliers, which can short the terminals.
  4. Look through the fuse: a broken metal strip means it has blown.
  5. Fit a new fuse of the exact same amperage (the number printed on top and color-coded). A higher rating can overheat the wiring.
  6. Test the circuit, then refit the cover.

If the New Fuse Blows Again

A fuse that blows immediately points to a fault in that circuit — a chafed wire, a failed component or water ingress. Do not keep fitting fuses or step up the amperage; have the circuit diagnosed. Safety-critical circuits such as airbags, ABS and the glow plugs on the diesel should always be left to a workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the fuse box on a Hyundai Tucson Mk3?

There are two: one in the lower dash on the driver’s side under the steering wheel, and one in the engine bay beside the battery. The interior box covers most cabin circuits; the engine-bay box holds the high-current and main fuses.

How do I know which fuse is which?

Read the legend printed on the inside of the fuse-box cover on your own car. The layout varies by engine and trim, so match the label to the slot rather than relying on a generic diagram.

Can I use a higher-amp fuse if I don’t have the right one?

No. A fuse protects the wiring by design; fitting a higher rating can let the wire overheat and start a fire. Always replace like for like.

If a blown fuse has left a warning light or stored a fault code, you can look the code up on autodtcs.com.
