Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford F-150 Mk11 (P2) 2004-2008.

TPMS arrived on the Ford F-150 part-way through this generation. 2004–2006 trucks have only a low-pressure warning light — there is no owner relearn. 2007–2008 trucks got the full system that must be relearned after a tire rotation (front and rear pressures differ). This is the US-market procedure.

2007-2008: relearn with the hazard switch (no tool)

  1. Drive above 20 mph for at least 2 minutes, then park with an air pump handy.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF, then ON (engine off). Flick the hazard flashers on and off three times within 10 seconds — a horn chirp and TRAIN LEFT FRONT TIRE confirm you’re in relearn mode.
  3. At each wheel in order — left-front, right-front, right-rear, left-rear — briefly let air out until the horn chirps (single chirp = learned).
  4. Turn the ignition off, then set all four tires to the placard pressure.

2004-2006: no owner relearn

These trucks only flag low pressure. Correct the cold pressures to clear the warning; a sensor fault needs a dealer or TPMS tool.

Cold pressures aren’t printed in the manual — read the Tire Label on the driver’s door edge or B-pillar for your exact tires. The mini-spare takes 60 psi.

FAQ

Does my F-150 even have TPMS?

2007 and 2008 trucks do and can be relearned at home; 2004–2006 trucks have a warning light only.

Do I need a tool?

No — the 2007–2008 relearn uses the hazard switch plus a quick pressure change at each wheel.

What order are the wheels?

Left-front, right-front, right-rear, left-rear.

If your F-150 stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
