A flat 12 V battery will stop a 2015–2023 Ford Mustang cranking. Remove the battery shield, connect at the battery, and ground the last clamp to bare engine metal. This is the US-market procedure.
- Park a 12 V donor close but not touching; parking brakes on, ignitions off, accessories off. Remove the Mustang’s battery shield (three fasteners).
- Red (+) to the Mustang’s positive (+), then to the donor’s positive (+).
- Black (−) to the donor’s negative (−), then to bare unpainted engine metal on the Mustang, away from the battery and fuel system.
- Hold the donor at 2,000–3,000 rpm, start the Mustang, run both about 3 minutes, then remove the cables in reverse order and refit the shield.
FAQ
Where does the ground clamp go?
Bare engine metal away from the battery — not the dead battery’s negative post, wiper arms, or intake.
Why 2,000-3,000 rpm on the donor?
Ford recommends holding the donor’s revs up to feed enough charge before cranking.
It won’t start.
Give it a few minutes at raised donor rpm; a repeat failure means a battery or alternator test.
