If the electric sunroof on your Vauxhall Corsa D (2006–2014) — the Opel Corsa D elsewhere — has stopped opening or closing properly, stops part-way, or lost its one-touch function, the roof controller needs re-initialising. It usually happens after the battery is disconnected or goes flat, after a fuse is pulled, or if the roof was forced. The fix is a quick relearn you can do yourself with the roof switch, no tools.
Why the Sunroof Loses Its Calibration
The roof module stores the fully-open and fully-closed positions so it can run automatically and stop if it meets resistance (anti-trap). A power loss clears those references as a precaution, so until you re-teach them the roof only moves while you hold the switch.
Before You Start
- Make sure the battery is well charged — the relearn won’t complete on a weak battery.
- Clear the roof and its tracks of leaves and grit so the glass can reach both end stops cleanly.
- Keep hands and objects clear of the opening — the anti-trap protection is off during the relearn.
How to Re-initialise the Corsa D Sunroof
- Press the switch to open the sliding roof and hold it until the roof is fully open.
- Release the switch.
- Operate the switch to close the sliding/tilting roof and hold it until the roof is fully closed.
- The end positions are now stored — check the one-touch open and close work normally.
If the Sunroof Still Won’t Auto-Operate
- You released the switch early: repeat and keep holding through each full open and close.
- Weak battery: charge it and try again.
- Dirty or dry tracks: clean the channels and apply silicone lubricant.
- Just did a battery job: expected — see our Corsa D battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
- Roof leaking or slow: clear the sunroof drain channels (a known Corsa issue) before relying on the relearn.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a diagnostic tool to reset the Corsa D sunroof?
No — the relearn is done entirely with the roof switch as described. A scan tool is only needed if a genuine motor or module fault is stored.
Why did the sunroof stop working after I changed the battery?
The roof module loses its end-stop references during a power loss. Re-initialise it with one full open and close and the function returns.
Is the anti-trap working during the relearn?
No — keep hands and objects clear of the opening while teaching the end stops.
Is the Opel Corsa D the same?
Yes — the Vauxhall and Opel Corsa D are the same car, so this procedure applies to both.
If you also lost the windows after a power cut, see our Corsa D electric window reinitialisation guide, or clear a reminder with the Corsa D service indicator reset guide.
