Reset the Tyre Pressure Warning

These instructions apply to the Volkswagen Golf Mk8 (CD) 2020-Present.

When the tyre-pressure warning comes on in your Volkswagen Golf Mk8 (CD, 2020–present), it usually just means the system needs to store your current pressures as the new reference after a check, top-up or wheel change. On the Mk8 you reset it through the infotainment touchscreen. This guide shows how.

When to Reset

  • After checking or adjusting the tyre pressures (including seasonal changes).
  • After changing one or more wheels or tyres.
  • After disconnecting or renewing the battery.

Set Your Pressures First

The reset stores whatever pressures are in the tyres at that moment, so they must be correct first. Set all four (cold) to the figures on the placard in the driver’s door aperture, using the laden column for a full load. Never reset with a tyre already low.

What the TPMS light means on the Volkswagen Golf Mk8, and how to reset it after setting the correct pressures.

How to Reset the Golf Mk8 TPMS

  1. Make sure all four tyres are at the correct cold pressure.
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. On the infotainment screen, open the vehicle menu and select “Vehicle”.
  4. Select “Status”, then the tyre-pressure (last) option in the list.
  5. Press “SET”, then “CONFIRM” — the system stores the new pressures as the reference.

The system finishes learning over the first few miles, so the light can take a short drive to confirm it has cleared.

Light Won’t Go Out? Work Through This

  • A tyre is genuinely low: the system is doing its job — find and fix the leak, re-inflate, then reset.
  • Reset not confirmed: make sure you pressed SET then CONFIRM; repeat the menu steps if not.
  • Big front-to-rear split: set them to the placard figures — the indirect monitor dislikes large mismatches.
  • Light stays on with correct pressures: a persistent fault may be stored — you can look up what a code means on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the TPMS reset on a Golf Mk8?

In the touchscreen menu: Vehicle → Status → the tyre-pressure option → SET → CONFIRM.

Why does the light come back a few days later?

Either a tyre is slowly losing air, or you reset while a tyre was already low. Re-check all four cold pressures and reset again.

Do I need to reset after just topping up the air?

Yes — any pressure change shifts the reference, so reset after any adjustment.

Does the Golf Mk8 have sensors in the wheels?

Most use the indirect (ABS-based) tyre-pressure monitor that you reset from the menu after setting pressures; some have direct sensors. Either way the menu reset above is the owner step.

After tyre or seasonal-wheel work it is worth confirming the service reminder is clear — see our VW Golf service indicator reset guide.
