Enable or Disable the Stop/Start System

These instructions apply to the Nissan Juke Mk2 (F16) 2019-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 5, 2026

The Nissan Juke Mk2 (F16, 2019–present) has a Stop/Start system that switches the engine off at a standstill to save fuel. It’s easy to turn off when you’d rather keep the engine running — here’s how, plus why it sometimes refuses to stop the engine in the first place.

How It Works on the Juke

Brake to a halt (with the DCT auto) or stop, select neutral and release the clutch (manual), and the engine shuts off. Lift the brake or dip the clutch and it restarts instantly. It only operates once the engine is warm and the 12 V battery is healthy.

How to Switch It Off

  1. With the engine running, press the Stop/Start OFF button — the “A” inside a circular arrow, on the dash near the steering wheel or on the centre console.
  2. A dash light confirms the system is off, and the engine idles normally at a stop.

How to Switch It Back On

Press the button again, or simply restart the car — Stop/Start defaults back on every time you switch the ignition off and on. There’s no factory setting to make it stay off.

Why It Sometimes Won’t Stop the Engine

  • The engine isn’t warm yet, or the climate system is demanding strong heating/cooling or demist.
  • The 12 V battery charge is low — common after short trips or a recent battery change; the system blocks auto-stop to protect the battery.
  • You’re on a slope, the steering is turned, or you haven’t come to a full stop.

If it stopped working entirely after a battery change, let the battery fully charge — see our Juke battery guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Juke remember if I turn Stop/Start off?

No — it returns to on at every start. There’s no built-in option to keep it permanently disabled.

Is the constant stopping bad for the engine?

No — the Juke’s starter and battery are designed for it, and the system skips stops whenever conditions aren’t suitable.

Why won’t the engine auto-stop?

Most often a cold engine, a low battery, or the climate system needing the engine — all normal blocking conditions.

The Stop/Start light is on — is that a fault?

If you pressed the button, the light just shows it’s disabled. If you didn’t, it usually points to battery condition — worth a check if it persists.

If a warning light appeared alongside the fault, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear a service reminder, see our Juke service reset guide.
