If the remote on your Peugeot 208 Mk2 (P21, 2019–present) has gone weak — short range, fussy keyless entry, or a “key battery low” message — the coin cell needs renewing. The 208 Mk2 fob takes a CR2032 (both the standard and keyless versions), and the swap needs no programming. Here’s how.
What You Need
- A fresh CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell.
- The fob’s emergency key blade and a small flat screwdriver.
How to Replace the 208 Mk2 Key Battery
- Slide out the emergency key blade (release the catch on the fob). On the keyless smart key this leaves a slot to open the case.
- Use a small screwdriver to split the case / remove the key cover.
- Lift out the old CR2032, noting which way up it sits.
- Fit the new cell the same way round, by the edges.
- Click the cover back on and slide the blade home.
- Test lock/unlock from a normal distance.
Does It Need Programming?
No — the swap doesn’t touch the fob’s pairing, so it works at once. A lost or extra key can only be ordered and coded by a Peugeot dealer.
If It Still Won’t Respond
Re-open the fob, check the cell orientation and clean the contacts. On keyless cars you can still start by holding the fob against the marked spot and pressing START.
