The Citroën Berlingo Mk3 (K9, 2018–present) has a Stop & Start system that switches the engine off at a standstill to save fuel. If you’d rather keep it running — in traffic, on a hot day, or before working in the engine bay — you can switch it off.
How to Turn Off Stop & Start
There are two ways, depending on your Berlingo:
- Dashboard button: press the ‘AⓇ’ (Stop & Start OFF) button — often near the gear selector or on the centre console. A message confirms it’s off.
- Touchscreen: on cars without the button, open the Driving / Vehicle menu and switch Stop & Start off.
It Resets Every Drive
Like nearly every car with this feature, the Berlingo re-enables Stop & Start each time you restart. There’s no permanent factory ‘off’ — switch it off again at the start of each journey if you prefer.
Why Switch It Off?
- Before engine-bay work — avoids an unexpected restart.
- Stop-go traffic — stops constant cycling.
- Maximum cabin cooling/heating on extreme days.
Stop & Start also won’t cut the engine on its own when the battery is low, the cabin still needs heating/cooling, or the engine is cold — that’s normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I turn off Stop & Start on a Citroën Berlingo?
Press the AⓇ button near the gear selector, or switch it off in the touchscreen Driving menu.
Can I disable it permanently?
No — it resets to on at every restart. Switch it off each drive.
Why did Stop & Start come back on?
Restarting the car re-enables it automatically.
Why won’t the engine stop sometimes?
A low battery, climate demand or a cold engine holds it running — that’s by design.
If a Stop & Start fault light shows, look it up on autodtcs.com — a tired 12 V battery is the usual cause. See our Berlingo battery guide.
