Home/Kia/Sorento/Mk4 (MQ4) 2020-Present/Reset the Service Indicator

Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Kia Sorento Mk4 (MQ4) 2020-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

When the service reminder appears on your Kia Sorento Mk4 (MQ4, 2020–present), you can clear it straight from the dashboard with the steering-wheel OK button — no diagnostic tool needed. Do the oil and filter change first.

Reset After the Service Only

The Service Interval counter just measures distance and time. Reset it once the work is done, or the next reminder will be wrong.

How to Reset the Sorento Mk4 Service Reminder

  1. Turn the ignition on (engine off).
  2. When the service message is shown on the cluster, press and hold the ‘OK’ button for about 1 second to reset it.
  3. Alternatively, use the multifunction display: open ‘Service Interval’ and follow the on-screen instructions to reset.

If It Doesn’t Reset

  • You didn’t hold OK — a brief press scrolls; hold it ~1 second to reset.
  • A different warning is lit — that’s a fault, not the service counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a Kia Sorento?

Ignition on, then hold the steering-wheel OK button ~1 second on the service message, or use Service Interval in the display menu.

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No — it’s done from the dashboard.

Does the engine need to run?

No — ignition on, engine off.

The reminder came back — why?

The reset didn’t register. Repeat, holding OK until it clears.

If a warning light appeared with the service message, look it up on autodtcs.com. After battery work, see our Sorento Mk4 battery guide.
