Home/Jeep/Renegade/Mk1 (BU) 2014-Present/Reset the Service Indicator

Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Jeep Renegade Mk1 (BU) 2014-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

When the spanner / oil-change service message appears on your Jeep Renegade (2014–present), you don’t need a dealer or a diagnostic tool to clear it after an oil change — the Renegade has a built-in pedal sequence any owner can do in under a minute. Here’s the method, which works on the petrol, diesel and e-Torque mild-hybrid versions of the BU Renegade.

Before You Start

The service indicator on the Renegade refers only to the oil-change interval — reset it after you (or your garage) have actually changed the oil and filter, not to silence a reminder for work you haven’t done. You don’t press the brake during this sequence, and you don’t start the engine.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Without pressing the brake, press the START/STOP button (or turn the key) to switch the ignition on — do not start the engine.
  2. The maintenance symbol and service message appear on the display.
  3. Within 10 seconds, fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times.
  4. Switch the ignition off (press START/STOP once without the brake).
  5. The service indicator is reset. Repeat the sequence if the message is still showing.

An alternative that some Renegades accept: ignition on, then within 30 seconds press the accelerator three times, switch off and release the brake.

If the Message Won’t Clear

  • Work quickly — the three pedal presses must happen inside the 10-second window after the message appears.
  • Press the pedal fully each time, all the way to the floor, then fully release.
  • A separate warning (not the spanner)? An oil-pressure or sensor fault stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the oil service light on a Jeep Renegade?

Ignition on (engine off), press the accelerator three times within 10 seconds, then switch off — the spanner message clears.

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No — the pedal sequence is the official owner method; a tool is only an alternative, not a requirement.

Does this work on the diesel and e-Torque Renegade?

Yes — the reset is the same across the BU Renegade range; the indicator only tracks the oil interval.

The light came back after a few miles — why?

The reset may not have registered; repeat it carefully, pressing the pedal fully within the 10-second window.

If a different warning light appeared alongside the service message, our sister site autodtcs.com can help you decode the fault code.
