After an oil-and-filter change on your SsangYong Korando (C300, 2019–2022), the service / checkup reminder needs resetting so the countdown starts again. You can do it yourself from the dashboard User Settings menu — no tool needed.

The ‘checkup’ reminder on the fourth-generation SsangYong Korando (chassis code C300) is a routine maintenance prompt, not a fault warning. When the car reaches its next scheduled service point — most often the engine oil and filter — a spanner (wrench) symbol or a checkup message appears in the instrument display. It is the Korando counting down its service interval and telling you the interval has elapsed. After the work is done, the counter has to be zeroed by hand from the dashboard menu so the car starts counting toward the next service.

Keep the distinction clear before you open the menu: this reminder does not measure anything mechanical, and clearing it does not service the car. It only records that the interval has been reached. Reset it without actually changing the oil and the dashboard will read clear while the Korando runs on past its real service point.

What the Checkup Reminder Means on the Korando

The Korando stores its own service interval and shows the checkup alert when that interval is up. It is an interval-based reminder rather than a live oil-condition sensor, so it appears on the schedule the car has stored, not by testing the oil itself. The menu lists the checkup items separately, with ‘Engine oil and filter’ being the one most owners reset after a DIY oil change. If you are unsure what your Korando’s exact service interval should be, check the maintenance schedule in your owner’s handbook rather than assuming a figure.

Getting Ready

  • Do the oil and filter change first — resetting only clears the reminder, it does not perform any maintenance.
  • Park safely on level ground with the handbrake applied.
  • Switch the ignition on with the engine off so the digital instrument display and its menu are awake.
  • No tools are required — the whole reset is done with the dashboard menu buttons.

Resetting the Service Indicator

  1. Press the ‘MENU’ button repeatedly until ‘User Settings’ appears.
  2. Select ‘Dashboard settings’.
  3. Select ‘Checkup alert’.
  4. Select ‘Engine oil and filter’.
  5. Press and hold the ‘ENTER’ button — the service interval is reset.

When it works, the checkup value returns to its full interval and the spanner / checkup message clears, confirming the countdown has restarted.

If the Reset Doesn’t Take

  • Hold ENTER until the reminder clears — a quick tap will not confirm the reset.
  • Make sure you selected ‘Engine oil and filter’ under Checkup alert, not a neighbouring item.
  • Check the ignition is on and the engine is off before you start scrolling the menu.
  • Cycle the ignition off and on and repeat from the MENU button if the value does not change.
  • A reminder that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

What Happens Next

Once the reset takes, the checkup alert clears and does not return on the next start-up. The Korando begins counting down toward the next service from a full interval. If the reminder reappears immediately or on your next drive, the reset did not complete — go back into the menu and hold ENTER a little longer on ‘Engine oil and filter’.

How Often It Comes Up

Reset the checkup alert every time that item of maintenance is carried out — in practice, right after each oil and filter change. That keeps the reminder aligned with the real service schedule. For the exact mileage or time between services on your Korando, follow the schedule in your owner’s handbook, since it can vary by market and by how the car is driven.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a SsangYong Korando?

MENU > User Settings > Dashboard settings > Checkup alert > Engine oil and filter, then hold ENTER.

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done from the dashboard menu. There is no need for a diagnostic scanner or a garage visit just to clear the checkup reminder.

Where is the checkup alert?

Under User Settings > Dashboard settings in the instrument display. Press MENU until User Settings appears, then work down into Dashboard settings.

Should I reset before or after the oil change?

After — the reminder counts down to the next service, so you clear it once the new oil and filter are fitted.

Are there separate checkup items I can reset?

Yes — the Checkup alert menu lists items separately, and ‘Engine oil and filter’ is the one most owners reset after a DIY oil change.

Does resetting the checkup alert fix anything?

No. It only zeroes the maintenance counter. The service itself still has to be done — resetting simply tells the car it has been.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
