Last updated:
The Bentley Continental GT (3S, 2018–2022) has no dipstick — you check the engine oil level from the dashboard menu instead. Here’s how to read it correctly.
Get the Conditions Right First
- Park the car level with the bonnet closed.
- After an oil change, run the engine at idle, switch off, and wait about 4 hours before checking (the system needs the oil settled).
- For a routine check, a warm engine that has stood a few minutes is fine.
Checking the Oil Level
- Close the bonnet and turn the ignition on.
- On the multifunction display, select ‘CAR’ > ‘Servicing and checks’ > ‘Oil level’.
- Read the level on the display.
Topping Up
- Add the correct specification oil a little at a time — don’t overfill.
- Re-check on the display after a few minutes for the oil to drain down.
- Use the exact grade in your handbook — the W12/V8 are sensitive to specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Bentley Continental GT have a dipstick?
No — check the oil level from the dashboard menu (CAR > Servicing and checks > Oil level).
Why wait 4 hours after an oil change?
The electronic sensor needs the fresh oil fully settled to read accurately.
Can I check it cold?
Check on a level surface with the engine off; after a change, allow the longer settling time for an accurate reading.
What if the display shows low?
Top up gradually with the correct grade and re-check — don’t overfill.
If an oil-level or oil-pressure warning appears, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
