If the key fob on your Polestar 2 (2021–2024) has gone weak or the locking has become intermittent, the coin cell inside is almost certainly flat. It’s a quick swap.
Battery First — What You Need
- A coin cell — typically a CR2032 (check the marking on the old one when you open the fob).
- A small flat screwdriver.
Replacing the Cell
- With the keyways facing up, move the slider as shown and remove the key cover.
- Remove the button-cell cover with a screwdriver.
- Remove the old cell — don’t touch the terminals.
- Fit the new cell with the positive side facing up.
- Refit the cell cover and the key cover, then check the remote locks and unlocks the car.
Lost Key or Adding a Spare
A cell swap keeps the existing coding. A lost or broken key can only be ordered and programmed by Polestar — there’s no owner sequence.
If a Fresh Cell Doesn’t Help
- Check the orientation — the positive side faces up.
- Use the phone key (Polestar app) in the meantime.
