To change the wiper blades on your ORA Funky Cat (2022–2024), the arms first need to be lifted into their service position. With the power off, a flick of the wiper stalk moves them clear of the bonnet.

The service position — you’ll also hear it called the maintenance or winter position — lifts the wiper arms high off the glass and holds them there so you can work at the base of the windscreen. You use it whenever the arms need to be out of their normal parked spot: fitting new blades, standing the arms up before a cold night so the rubber doesn’t freeze to the screen and tear off when you first wipe, or reaching in to clear leaves and grit from the scuttle. On the Funky Cat there’s no menu digging and no tool needed — the arms are triggered up with a single move of the wiper stalk once the car is powered down. It’s a normal built-in feature, not a warning of anything wrong.

Why There’s a Service Position

When the Funky Cat parks its wipers, the arms drop down low against the bottom of the windscreen, where they sit partly tucked under the trailing edge of the bonnet. That neat parked spot is what makes them awkward to lift by hand: pull an arm straight up from park and it catches the bonnet lip well before it reaches a useful angle. Force it and you risk bending the arm, straining the wiper linkage, or chipping the paint along the bonnet edge. Triggering the service position first drives the arms up and away from that pinch point so they stand clear of the panel, giving you room to change the blades without fighting the arm.

Before You Begin

  • Keep the bonnet closed. The arms swing up high into the space above the scuttle, so the panel must be down before you move them.
  • Have the car stationary and the EV power switched off before you touch the stalk — that’s the state the position works from.
  • Free any frozen blades first. If the rubber is iced to the glass, clear it before you trigger the arms, or the motor labours against a stuck blade.
  • Have the new blades ready so you can swap them quickly once the arms are up.
  • Work one arm at a time rather than trying to steady both together.

Moving the Wipers to Service Position

  1. Turn the EV power switch OFF.
  2. Push the wiper stalk up and wait about 3 seconds.
  3. The wipers move up to the service position, clear of the bonnet, where you can lift the arms and swap the blades.

Returning the Wipers to Normal

Once the new blades are on, fold each arm gently back down onto the glass first — never let one snap back on its own, as an unsupported arm can crack the screen. Then turn the EV power switch back on and the wipers return to their normal parked position. Give the glass a quick wet sweep to check the blades sit flat and wipe cleanly across their full travel before you set off.

If It Doesn’t Work

  • The power wasn’t off. The move only works with the EV power switched off — power the car down, then push the stalk up.
  • You didn’t hold or wait long enough. Push the stalk up and give it about 3 seconds before expecting the arms to rise.
  • The bonnet is open. Many cars block the raised position while the bonnet is up — close it and retry.
  • The blades are frozen down. Ice locking the arms to the glass can stall the movement; clear it first.
  • The wipers weren’t parked. Let them finish and settle to their normal rest position before you power down and try again.
  • Nothing happened. Power the car fully off, wait a moment, then push the stalk up once more and wait the few seconds.

Changing the Blades — What to Expect

With the arms raised, hold the arm steady with one hand while you release the old blade so it can’t spring down and strike the glass. Most blades use a simple clip or hook fitting: press the release tab, slide the old blade off, and clip the new one on until it locks home. If you’re not sure which size or fitting your car takes, check the handbook or measure the old blades before buying. When the new blade is seated, lower the arm slowly back onto the glass instead of letting it drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I lift the Funky Cat wipers into service position?

Switch the EV power off, push the wiper stalk up, and wait about three seconds. The arms rise clear of the bonnet so you can lift them and get at the blades.

Why can’t I just lift the arms from park?

Parked, the arms sit under the bonnet lip and won’t swing up far enough. Forcing one risks bending the arm or chipping the paint. The service position raises them clear and protects the linkage.

Do I need any tools?

No. Moving the wipers into service position is done entirely with the wiper stalk once the power is off — no tools needed. You’ll only need the new blades for the swap itself.

How do I get the wipers back down?

Fold the arms back onto the glass, then turn the EV power switch on. The wipers return to their normal parked position on their own.

Why won’t it enter the service position?

Usually the power wasn’t fully off, you didn’t wait the few seconds after pushing the stalk, or the bonnet is open. Power down, close the bonnet, push the stalk up and wait.

Does using service position reset anything?

No. It only lifts the wiper arms to a raised angle for maintenance. It doesn’t clear any reminders or change other settings — the wipers simply drop back to normal when you power the car up again.

If a wiper-related warning appears afterwards, you can look up what the fault code means on autodtcs.com.
