Reset a Frozen Infotainment Screen

These instructions apply to the Lexus NX Mk2 (Z2) 2022-Present.

The Lexus NX (Z2, 2022–present) — the NX 250, NX 350, NX 350h and NX 450h+ — was the first Lexus to launch the new Lexus Interface touchscreen, replacing the old Remote Touch puck entirely. Early cars were prone to the navigation map freezing or flickering, so knowing the proper reboot is genuinely useful on this generation. A hold of the radio Power button restarts the head unit without losing any settings.

The infotainment system in this NX generation

The second-generation NX dropped the console mouse and moved to a proper capacitive touchscreen — a standard 9.8-inch panel or the optional 14-inch unit — running the cloud-connected Lexus Interface software. There is still a physical Power/Volume knob below the screen, and that knob is the key to the reboot. Owners of the very earliest 2022 cars reported the navigation screen freezing, going white, or losing the map and having to stop and restart the car. Lexus issued a software update for that specific bug, which is installed at the dealer and is not pushed over the air.

How to force a soft reset of the Lexus NX Mk2 infotainment screen without losing your saved settings.

Soft reset: reboot the Lexus Interface head unit

  1. Keep the vehicle in READY (engine or hybrid system on) so the battery voltage stays steady through the reboot.
  2. Locate the round Power/Volume knob directly below the touchscreen.
  3. Press the knob in and hold it for about 20 seconds — this generation needs a longer hold than the old Remote Touch cars.
  4. Keep holding through the audio cutting out; the screen will go black and then display the Lexus logo.
  5. Release the knob and wait roughly a minute for the touchscreen, map and connected services to reload.

This is safe — no data is lost

The 20-second Power-knob hold is a clean software restart of the touchscreen unit only. It keeps your Lexus Connect profile, saved places, paired phones, radio favourites and display preferences. Nothing in the car’s settings is touched. Treat it as the first thing to try whenever the screen freezes, goes white, or stops responding to touch.

If it stays frozen

  • Disconnect any phone running Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and reboot again — a dropped projection session is a common freeze trigger on early Lexus Interface software.
  • Power the car fully off, open the driver’s door, wait a few minutes, then restart to force a cold boot.
  • Check Settings → System → Software Update for an available update; the navigation-freeze fix and several stability patches arrive this way or via the dealer.
  • If the screen keeps going white or freezing repeatedly, book the dealer software update for the early-build bug — it addresses a fault that no owner-side reboot can permanently cure.
  • A last-resort 12V battery disconnect for 15–30 minutes will hard-reset the unit, but try the software update first.

Factory reset (erases data)

To return the Lexus Interface to factory condition, go to Settings → System → Reset (or “Delete personal data / Restore factory settings”) and confirm. This erases saved destinations, accounts, paired devices and personalised display settings, so reserve it for selling the car or clearing a stubbornly corrupt profile — it is not needed for an everyday freeze.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my 2022 NX screen freeze or go white?

Early Lexus Interface builds had a known navigation bug that could freeze the map or turn the screen white. A 20-second Power-knob reboot clears it temporarily; the permanent fix is the Lexus software update installed at the dealer, which is not sent over the air.

How long do I hold the Power button to reboot?

About 20 seconds — longer than the older Remote Touch NX. Keep holding past the point where the audio mutes, until the screen goes black and the Lexus logo appears.

Does the Z2 NX have a touchscreen now?

Yes. The 2022-on NX was the first Lexus with the new touchscreen-based Lexus Interface, so you can tap the screen directly. The Power/Volume knob below the screen is still what you use to force a reboot.

Will the reboot erase my Lexus Connect account or saved places?

No. Holding the Power knob only restarts the software. Your account, saved places, phones and presets stay. Only the Settings reset menu erases that data.

Should I disconnect the battery to fix the freezing?

Not first. Try the Power-knob reboot, then a software update. A battery disconnect is a last resort and won’t stop the early-build freezing bug returning — only the dealer update does that.

If the frozen screen comes alongside a warning light or stored fault code on your NX, check the code on autodtcs.com first to see whether the two are related before booking dealer time.
