These instructions apply to the Audi Q5 Mk1 (8R) 2008-2017.

The Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017) resets its oil-service reminder from the driver’s MMI menu, with no tools needed for a fixed service schedule. If your car is set to Audi’s flexible Longlife schedule, the full inspection reset needs a diagnostic tool — see the note below.
How to Reset the Service Light on an Audi Q5 (8R)
- Switch the ignition on (engine off).
- Press the CAR button, then open Service and Control (on some cars the next step is reached directly).
- Select Service interval display. The current service information appears.
- Select Reset oil change interval and confirm.
- The display shows the new interval. Switch the ignition off to store it.
Fixed Schedule vs Longlife
The MMI reset above clears the oil-change interval on cars running a fixed (time/distance) schedule. If your Q5 is on Audi’s variable Longlife servicing, the inspection and oil resets are tied to service data that only a VAG diagnostic tool (VAS/VCDS-type) can rewrite.
If the reminder returns or will not clear from the MMI, your car is almost certainly on Longlife — a dealer or independent with Audi software will reset it, usually as part of the service.
Before You Reset
- Do the actual oil and filter change first — the reset only clears the message, it does not service the car.
- Reset straight after the work so the next interval counts from the correct point.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Audi Q5 service light reset from the menu?
The MMI reset only works on a fixed schedule. On Longlife servicing there is no menu reset — it needs Audi diagnostic software.
Does resetting the service light service the car?
No. It only clears the reminder and restarts the counter. Always change the oil and filter first.
Is the oil-change reset the same as the inspection reset?
Not quite. Audi splits servicing into an oil-change interval and a longer inspection interval; the MMI handles the oil reset, while the full inspection reset on Longlife cars is a tool job.
