These instructions apply to the BMW X5 Mk2 (E70) 2006-2013.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
The BMW X5 (E70, 2006–2013) takes a 24-inch driver’s blade and a 20-inch passenger blade on 2008–2013 cars (early 2007 cars use 24″/22″), plus a separate rear blade. There’s no electronic “service position” on the E70 — you lift the arms by hand to swap the blades.
Blade Sizes
- 2008–2013: driver’s side 24″, passenger side 20″.
- 2007 cars: driver’s side 24″, passenger side 22″.
- Rear screen: a dedicated rear blade (around 15–18″ depending on year).
- The fronts use BMW’s hook/claw-style fitting — buy blades listed for the E70 X5 so the adapter matches.
How to Replace the Front Wiper Blades
- With the wipers parked, lift a wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up on its spring.
- Turn the blade across the arm, release the clip/catch where it meets the hook, and slide the old blade off.
- Slide the new blade on until it clicks, then fold it back in line with the arm.
- Lower the arm gently onto the screen — don’t let it snap down and chip the glass.
- Repeat for the other blade, then run the wipers on a wet screen to check for clean, chatter-free wiping.
Replacing the Rear Blade
Lift the rear arm, unclip the blade at the center fitting and slide it off, then fit the new rear-specific blade the same way. The rear uses a different fitting from the fronts, so order the rear blade separately.
