These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Impala Mk10 2014-2020.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.
Before electrical work on a 2014–2020 Chevrolet Impala you disconnect the 12 V battery, negative first. Stop/Start cars (2.5L) also have an AGM auxiliary battery in the trunk. This is the US-market procedure.
- Ignition off, key out, eye protection on.
- Open the hood; the main 12 V battery is in the engine compartment.
- Remove the negative (−, black) cable first, then the positive (+, red).
- Reconnect positive first, negative last. On Stop/Start cars the main battery is AGM — replace like-for-like.
- Reset the clock and presets.
FAQ
Isn’t there a battery in the trunk?
On Stop/Start Impalas there’s an AGM auxiliary battery behind a panel in the left rear of the trunk — it feeds stop/start loads only and is not for jump-starting. The main battery is under the hood.
Which cable first?
Negative off first, negative on last.
Does it need AGM?
Stop/Start cars (2.5L) use AGM for both the main and auxiliary batteries.
