Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Chevrolet Tahoe (GMT900) 2007-2014.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2007–2014 Chevrolet Tahoe (GMT900) has a direct TPMS with a sensor in each wheel. After a rotation you relearn which sensor sits where — and unusually, this generation does it with the key fob, no tool required. This is the US-market procedure, shared with the Suburban.

  1. Set all four tires to the placard pressure (below). Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition ON (engine off).
  2. Press the fob’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together for about 5 seconds — the horn sounds twice and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE shows. The system starts at the driver-front wheel.
  3. At the driver-front, briefly add or release air (about 5 seconds) until the horn chirps — that sensor is learned. (It can take up to 30 seconds.)
  4. Repeat in order — passenger-front, passenger-rear, driver-rear. After the driver-rear, the horn sounds twice and learning ends.
  5. Switch the ignition off and set all four tires to the placard pressure.

You have two minutes for the first wheel and five minutes overall; if it times out, start again.

Chevrolet Tahoe tire pressures (cold)

GM sets the pressures by fitted size and prints them on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver-side center (B) pillar — that placard is the authority. The common full-size-SUV figure is:

Tire sizeFront & rear (cold)
P265/70R17, P265/65R1835 psi
P275/55R2035 psi

Set them cold and match your placard; it carries the exact figure for your truck’s tire and load rating.

FAQ

Do I need a TPMS tool?

No — the GMT900 Tahoe relearns with the key fob plus a brief pressure change at each wheel. (The later K2XX Tahoe needs a relearn tool instead.)

What order do the wheels go in?

Driver-front, passenger-front, passenger-rear, driver-rear.

The light is still on.

Re-check cold pressures and repeat the relearn; a flat sensor battery will need replacing.

If your Tahoe stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
