Put the Wipers in Service Position

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 1, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Citroën C4 Mk2 (B71) 2010-2018.

To change the front wiper blades on a Citroen C4 Mk2 (2010–2018) you first move the arms to their vertical service position. Lifting them off the glass without doing this can let them foul the bonnet.

How to put the Citroen C4 wipers in service position

  1. Make sure the bonnet is closed.
  2. Switch the ignition off.
  3. Within one minute of switching off, operate the wiper stalk (flick it as if for a single wipe).
  4. The wiper arms move up to the vertical service position, clear of the bonnet, so you can lift them and renew the blades.

Returning the wipers to normal

  1. After fitting the new blades, fold the arms back onto the glass.
  2. Switch the ignition on and operate the wipers once.
  3. The arms return to their normal parked position.

Always do this before driving — left in the service position the wipers won’t park correctly and can catch the bonnet edge.

Frequently asked questions

My C4 wipers won’t lift off the screen — why?
They are parked under the bonnet lip. Use the service-position step above to raise them clear before changing the blades.

Is there a time limit?
Yes — operate the stalk within about a minute of switching the ignition off, or the car returns the wipers to park.

If a wiper or washer warning appears afterwards, you can look up the fault code on autodtcs.com.
