Reset the Oil Change Indicator

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Dodge Charger Mk7 (LD) 2011-2023.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

When a 2011–2023 Dodge Charger is due for an oil change it flags an oil change required message in the cluster. On this four-door muscle sedan the quickest reset is right there in the dashboard menu; a pedal shortcut also works if you’d rather not scroll. This is the US-market procedure.

Driver Information Display menu

  1. Press ENGINE START/STOP (no brake) to reach ON/RUN, engine off.
  2. Using the steering-wheel arrows, scroll down to Vehicle Info, then right to the Oil Life screen.
  3. Hold OK until the readout returns to 100%, then arrow out of the menu.

Accelerator-pedal shortcut

  1. Ignition in ON/RUN, engine off (no brake).
  2. Press the accelerator fully, slowly, three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Press START/STOP once to switch off — the indicator is cleared.

If the message is still there at the next start, the ignition probably wasn’t in RUN with the engine off — try again.

FAQ

Which method is better on the Charger?

The dashboard menu (Vehicle Info → Oil Life → hold OK) is the Charger’s listed primary method; the three-pedal-press trick is the backup.

How often does it ask for an oil change?

The algorithm adapts to how you drive but never lets the interval exceed 10,000 miles or 12 months.

What oil does the Hemi take?

5W-20 on the 3.6L V6 and 5.7L Hemi; the 6.4L 392 uses 0W-40 synthetic. Confirm on the oil-fill cap.

The Charger shares its LX platform, drivetrains and these procedures with the two-door Dodge Challenger.

If your Charger stores a fault code with the warning light, decode it on autodtcs.com.
