Fluids, Capacities and Spark Plug Specifications

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 8, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Dodge Magnum Mk1 (LX) 2005-2008.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

A verified reference for the fluids, capacities and spark-plug specifications of the Dodge Magnum (LX, 2005–2008) wagon, across its engines — the 2.7 L and 3.5 L V6s, the 5.7 L HEMI V8 and the 6.1 L SRT8. Figures are the factory data; always confirm against the label under your bonnet and the tyre placard in the door opening.

Engine Oil — Grade and Capacity

The three engines do not all take the same grade — the 3.5 L V6 is the odd one out.

EngineOil gradeCapacity (with filter)
2.7 L V6SAE 5W-20 (API certified)6.0 qt / 5.7 L
3.5 L V6SAE 10W-30 (API certified)6.0 qt / 5.7 L
5.7 L HEMI V8SAE 5W-20 (API certified)7.0 qt / 6.6 L

Oil must meet DaimlerChrysler standard MS-6395, and the change interval should never exceed 6,000 miles (10,000 km) or 6 months. Reset the reminder after each change with our Magnum oil-change reminder reset guide.

International markets: outside North America these V6s are specified SAE 5W-30 (both the 2.7 L and the 3.5 L); the 5.7 L HEMI stays 5W-20 everywhere. Follow the grade on your own oil-filler cap and handbook.

Coolant — Type and Capacity

All engines use Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (or equivalent). Figures include the heater and the recovery bottle filled to MAX.

EngineCooling-system capacity
2.7 L V69.9 qt / 9.4 L
3.5 L V6 (without AWD)11.1 qt / 10.5 L
3.5 L V6 (with AWD)11.4 qt / 10.8 L
5.7 L HEMI V814.7 qt / 13.9 L
5.7 L with Severe Duty II cooling15.1 qt / 14.3 L

Spark Plugs — Type, Gap and Torque

Each engine takes a different plug and gap; do not carry one engine’s spec over to another.

EnginePlug typeElectrode gapTorque
2.7 L V6RE10PMC50.048–0.058 in17 N·m (12.5 ft·lb)
3.5 L V6ZFR5LP-13G0.048–0.058 in28 N·m (20 ft·lb)
5.7 L HEMI V8Champion RE14MCC41.14 mm (0.045 in)To spec — tapered seat, do not over-tighten
6.1 L HEMI V8 (SRT8)NGK PLZTR5A-131.3 mm (0.050 in)15–20 N·m (11–15 ft·lb), max 15 ft·lb

The HEMI plugs use a tapered seat — over-tightening distorts them and changes the gap. Start every plug by hand to avoid cross-threading the aluminium heads; the V6 platinum plugs are a long-life item.

A Note on Service Intervals

These are North American figures. The service schedule (interval mileages) varies by market and duty cycle — the US manual lists a normal and a severe schedule — so follow the maintenance schedule in your own handbook for your market and use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 3.5 L V6 Magnum use different oil? Yes — the 3.5 L takes 10W-30, while the 2.7 L V6 and 5.7 L HEMI V8 use 5W-20.

What coolant goes in a Magnum? Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (HOAT) or an equivalent to the same spec — don’t top up with ordinary green coolant.
