When your Fiat 500X (334, 2015–present) only locks from close range, the key battery is flat. It’s a quick swap with no reprogramming.
The Cell You Need
The 500X’s remote takes a single CR2032 3 V coin cell. Buy one before you open the key.
Opening the Key
- If your key has a fold-out blade, flick it out; otherwise find the seam on the fob.
- Prise the case open at the seam with a small coin or plastic tool.
- Lift out the old CR2032, noting which way up it sits.
- Fit the new cell the same way, then click the case together.
After the Swap
Lock and unlock once within range to confirm. A battery change keeps the existing pairing — no reprogramming needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does a Fiat 500X key take?
A single CR2032 coin cell.
Do I need to reprogram after changing it?
No — the key keeps its pairing through a battery change.
My key still won’t work — now what?
Use the emergency blade in the driver’s door to unlock, then check the new cell is seated and the right way up.
Which way up does the cell go?
Match the orientation of the old one — usually + facing the back cover.
If the car won’t respond at all, the 12 V battery may be flat — see our 500X battery guide. For a stored code, look it up on autodtcs.com.
