Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 27, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford F-150 Mk13 (P552) 2015-2020.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2015–2020 Ford F-150 (P552) has a direct TPMS with a sensor in every wheel. After a tire rotation, a sensor swap, or fitting a second set of wheels, the system needs training so it knows which sensor sits at which corner. You do it yourself with the hazard-switch training mode — no dealer trip. This is the US-market procedure.

  1. Set all four tires to the pressure on the driver’s door-jamb placard (not the max on the sidewall), and take the valve caps off so you’re ready.
  2. Switch the ignition to ON without starting — press START/STOP once without the brake.
  3. Press the hazard-flasher button ON and OFF three times within 10 seconds. The horn sounds once and the low-tire light flashes — training mode is active.
  4. Go to the front-left tire and trigger its sensor: hold a TPMS activation tool on the valve stem, or briefly release a little air until the horn chirps. That sensor is learned.
  5. Repeat in this exact order — front-right, then rear-right, then rear-left — waiting for the chirp at each.
  6. After the rear-left, the horn sounds twice: training is complete. Switch off, re-inflate every tire to the placard pressure, and drive.

You have about two minutes per wheel before the system times out; if it does, just start again from the hazard-flasher step.

FAQ

Is there a TPMS reset button on the F-150?

No. The P552 F-150 has no single reset button — it relearns each sensor’s position with the hazard-switch training sequence above.

Do I actually need a TPMS tool?

It’s quicker with one, but you can trigger each sensor by briefly letting a little air out of that tire until the horn chirps.

Why the front-left → rear-left order?

The truck assigns each sensor to the corner you trigger, in that sequence. Doing them out of order makes it think the wrong tire is low.

The light is still on after driving — now what?

Re-check all four pressures cold against the door placard, then repeat the training; usually one sensor didn’t get learned.

If your F-150 stores a TPMS fault code alongside the light, look it up on autodtcs.com before re-training.
