If a Ford Kuga Mk1 (2008–2012) window has lost its one-touch or auto-reverse — usually after a battery disconnect or a pulled fuse — you re-teach it in under a minute with the switch on the door.

How to reinitialise a Kuga Mk1 electric window

  1. Turn the ignition key to position II.
  2. Pull the window switch up and hold until the window is fully closed, then release.
  3. Pull the switch up again and hold for about 3 seconds.
  4. Press the switch down and hold until the window is fully open, then release.
  5. Press the switch down again and hold for about 3 seconds.
  6. Pull the switch up and hold until the window is fully closed again.
  7. Check that one-touch now works, then turn the ignition off. Repeat for the passenger window if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my windows stop auto-closing?

Disconnecting the battery or pulling the window fuse wipes the one-touch memory, so the window must be re-taught its travel.

Do I have to do each window separately?

Yes — repeat the procedure for every window that has lost one-touch.

There’s still no one-touch after I finish.

Run the steps again and hold each position until the window reaches the very end of its travel; the motor has to see the full stroke to learn it.

If a window still won’t operate, a motor or switch fault may log a code — check it on autodtcs.com.
