Reset the Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPMS)

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 30, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford Kuga Mk1 (C394) 2008-2012.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

On a Ford Kuga Mk1 (2008–2012) fitted with tyre-pressure monitoring, you clear the warning after adjusting pressures or changing a wheel by storing a new reference with the SET/RESET button. Set the correct cold pressures first.

How to reset the tyre pressure monitor on a Kuga Mk1

  1. Set all four tyres to the correct cold pressures — the figures are on the placard in the driver’s door shut.
  2. Turn the ignition on, but do not start the engine.
  3. Scroll through the message-centre menu on the display to SET.
  4. Press and hold the SET/RESET button.
  5. “Tyre pressure set” appears on the display — release the button.
  6. The system stores the new pressures and the warning clears. Turn the ignition off, then drive normally for a few minutes to confirm.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kuga has no tyre-monitor option — why?

Earlier and lower-spec Mk1 Kugas were not fitted with tyre-pressure monitoring, so there is nothing to reset on those cars.

Do I reset before or after inflating the tyres?

After. Set the correct cold pressures first, then store them with the SET/RESET button.

The light comes back on cold mornings.

Air contracts as it cools, so pressures read lower overnight. Top up to the placard figure while cold and reset again.

The same tyre keeps triggering it.

Suspect a slow puncture and have that tyre inspected rather than resetting repeatedly.

If the tyre warning appeared with other lights, decode the codes on autodtcs.com.
