If the one-touch (auto up/down) windows stop working on your Ford Kuga Mk3 (2020–present) — usually after a flat or disconnected battery — the window motor has lost its learned end-stops and anti-pinch reference. Re-teaching it is a short switch routine per door, no tools.
Why It Happens
The window controller remembers the fully-closed position so one-touch can stop correctly and the anti-trap can work. A power interruption clears that memory, leaving only hold-to-move operation.
How to Re-initialise a Window
- Sit in the car with the door closed and the ignition on.
- Pull and hold the close switch until the window is fully closed, then release.
- Pull and hold the close switch again for a few seconds, then release.
- Pull and hold once more for a few seconds, then release.
- Press and hold the open switch until the window is fully open.
- Pull and hold the close switch until fully closed, then release.
- Check one-touch up and down work. Repeat for each affected window.
If One-Touch Still Doesn’t Work
- Run the full sequence again — each hold-at-the-top step teaches the closed limit.
- Make sure the door is shut and the battery is healthy during the learn.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my Kuga windows stop going up automatically?
A battery disconnect or flat battery wiped the learned position; re-initialise to restore one-touch.
How do I reset the auto window on a Ford Kuga?
Hold the close switch through the fully-closed and hold-again steps, then open fully and close fully once more, as above.
Do I have to do every window?
Only the ones with one-touch — re-teach each from its own switch.
Do I need a tool?
No — it’s done entirely from the window switches.
