Reset the Oil Life

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 14, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford Mustang Mk5 (S197) 2005-2014.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Later 2005–2014 Ford Mustangs (S197) with the full message center track an interval-based OIL LIFE figure, reset after each oil change with the SETUP and RESET controls. Cars with only the mini message center have no oil-life menu (they’re mileage-based). This is the US-market procedure.

  1. Press and release SETUP until the message center shows OIL LIFE = XXX% — HOLD RESET = NEW.
  2. Press and hold RESET for about two seconds and release — OIL LIFE SET TO 100% confirms it.
  3. (Optional) While that shows, press RESET to lower the start value in 10% steps for a shorter interval.
