The Toyota Auris Hybrid includes a special inspection and certification mode used for emissions testing and workshop diagnostics.
In these modes, the hybrid system allows the engine to run under controlled conditions.
Important Information
- Inspection and certification modes are intended for testing only.
- Never drive the vehicle while inspection mode is active.
- At idle speed, only the front brakes may operate.
- The procedure must be completed within the specified time limits.
Preparation Before Activation
- Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
- Switch the air conditioning OFF.
- Move the gear selector to position P.
Inspection Mode 1 (Constant Engine Operation)
This mode keeps the engine running continuously for inspection purposes.
- Switch the ignition ON (IG mode).
- Ensure the gear selector is in P.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal twice.
- Move the gear selector to N.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal twice.
- Move the gear selector back to P.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal twice.
The warning indicator will illuminate steadily and “MAINTENANCE MODE” will appear on the display.
- Depress the brake pedal.
- Start the vehicle to enter READY mode.
The engine will now run continuously. To exit inspection mode, switch the engine OFF.
Certification Mode (Emissions Test Bench)
Certification mode is used for emissions testing under controlled conditions.
- Switch the ignition ON (IG mode).
- Ensure the gear selector is in P.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal three times.
- Move the gear selector to N.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal three times.
- Move the gear selector back to P.
- Press and release the accelerator pedal three times.
The warning indicator will illuminate steadily and “CERTIFICATION MODE” will appear on the display.
- Depress the brake pedal.
- Start the vehicle to enter READY mode.
To exit certification mode, switch the engine OFF.
Additional Notes
- The entire activation sequence must be completed within 60 seconds.
- If the display message does not appear, repeat the procedure from the beginning.
- Inspection and certification modes automatically deactivate when the engine is turned off.
