If your 2002–2005 Hyundai Getz (TB) has a central-locking remote, a weak fob battery makes you press several times to lock or unlock. Many base Getz cars were key-only, but for those with a remote the coin cell is a quick, cheap swap. Here is how.
Before you start
- The Getz remote fob uses a CR1220 coin cell; buy the exact type.
- You need a small flat-blade tool, such as a jeweller’s screwdriver, to split the case.
- Note the polarity of the old cell (which face is +) before you remove it.
- Find the seam around the edge of the fob case where the two halves meet.
- Insert a small flat-blade tool into the seam and gently twist to pop the case apart. Work around the edge rather than forcing one spot.
- Lift out the old CR1220 coin cell, noting which way up it sat (usually + facing up).
- Fit the new CR1220 the same way round, matching the polarity of the cell you removed.
- Line the two case halves back up and press them together until the seam clips shut all the way round.
- Test the remote on the car: lock and unlock a couple of times to confirm it now responds on the first press.

Do I need to reprogram the remote after changing the battery?
No. A simple battery swap does not affect the pairing between the fob and the Getz, so the remote keeps working as before once the fresh cell is fitted.
My remote still won’t sync, or I want to add a spare — can I do it myself?
No. Adding a new remote or re-syncing one to the 2002–2005 Getz requires a Hyundai dealer or a diagnostic tool. There is no owner button sequence for this car, so a lost-pairing or extra-fob job has to be done professionally.
What battery does the Getz fob take?
A single CR1220 coin cell. It is a common size sold in most supermarkets and hardware shops, so a replacement is easy to source.
