Find the Fuse Boxes

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 7, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Hyundai i40 Mk1 (VF) 2011-2019.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Hyundai i40 (VF, 2011–2019) has two main fuse boxes: one in the engine bay by the battery, and one on the end of the driver’s-side dashboard. Here is where to find them and how to change a blown fuse safely.

Where the i40 Fuse Boxes Are

  • Engine compartment: next to the 12 V battery, under a clip-off lid. This box holds the high-current fuses and main relays.
  • Cabin: on the end face of the dashboard on the driver’s side, hidden by a small pull-off panel that is only visible with the door open.
  • The lid of each box carries the fuse legend for your own car — always read that, because fuse assignments and amperages vary by engine, trim, market and options.

How to Replace a Blown Fuse

  1. Switch off the ignition and the circuit that isn’t working.
  2. Pop the cover and use the lid legend to find the right fuse.
  3. Pull the fuse with the plastic puller clipped inside the lid. A blown fuse has a broken metal strip.
  4. Fit a new fuse of exactly the same amp rating (shown on the fuse and the legend).
  5. If the new fuse blows straight away, there is a fault on that circuit — have it checked rather than fitting another.

Safety

Never fit a higher-rated fuse, and never use wire or foil in place of a fuse — both can cause wiring damage or a fire. Airbag, ABS and other high-current circuits are best left to a specialist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the diagram of the fuses?

On the inside of each fuse-box lid. That legend is specific to your car, so use it rather than a generic chart.

Which fuse is the 12 V socket or cigarette lighter?

Check the lid legend — it’s usually labeled “ACC,” “power outlet” or a lighter symbol, but the slot varies by model year.

Why does the same fuse keep blowing?

A repeat blow means a short or an overloaded circuit, not a weak fuse. Have the circuit diagnosed.
