- Split the two halves. Twist gently to pop the rear cover away from the body of the fob. Work slowly around the seam if it is stiff — the halves are held by plastic clips, so there is no screw to undo on the smart key.
- Note the orientation, then lift the cell out. Before you disturb anything, look at which face of the old CR2032 is visible — on this fob the positive (+) face generally sits upward, toward the cover you just removed. Ease the cell out from under its retaining clip.
- Fit the new cell. Drop the fresh CR2032 in the same way the old one came out, matching that orientation exactly, and press it firmly under the clip so it seats against both contacts.
- Reassemble. Line up the two halves and squeeze until the clips click all the way round, then slide the mechanical blade back into its slot until it latches.
⚠️ Match the polarity you removed. The safest rule is to copy the exact orientation of the cell you took out — a coin cell fitted the wrong way round will not power the transmitter and can slowly discharge against the contacts. If in any doubt, snap a quick photo before you lift the old cell out.
Confirm It Worked
Stand back a few metres and lock, then unlock, the Santa Fe. Full range should return straight away.
