Disconnecting the 12 V battery on your Infiniti Q50 (V37, 2013–2023) — for a new battery, winter storage, or work near the airbags — is a straightforward job once you know where the battery lives.
Find the Battery First
On petrol Q50s the 12 V battery is in the engine compartment. On the hybrid (Q50 Hybrid) the 12 V auxiliary battery is in the boot — and the orange high-voltage system must never be touched. Note your radio presets before you start.
Disconnecting Safely
- Turn the ignition off and make sure all electrical consumers are off.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive.
- Working near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners? Wait a few minutes after disconnecting.
Reconnecting and Re-initialising
Reconnect positive first, then negative. The Q50 then needs a few items relearned:
- Power windows — re-initialise one-touch (see our window initialisation guide).
- Steering angle sensor — the ESP/steering light may need re-zeroing.
- Tyre pressure monitor — re-store the pressures from the menu.
- Re-enter the clock and presets.
If Something Isn’t Right Afterwards
- Warning lights often clear after a short drive.
- A persistent light stores a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.
- Fit a like-for-like battery of the correct type and rating.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the battery on an Infiniti Q50?
In the engine compartment on petrol cars; in the boot on the hybrid (which also has a separate high-voltage system).
Which terminal first?
Negative (−) off first, reconnect it last.
What needs resetting afterwards?
Power windows, the steering angle sensor and the tyre-pressure monitor may need re-initialising, plus the clock.
Is the hybrid different?
Yes — service only the 12 V battery in the boot; never touch the orange high-voltage cabling.
To relearn the windows, see our Q50 power-window guide. If a warning light stays on, decode it on autodtcs.com.
