Home/Isuzu/D-Max/Mk2 (TF) 2012-2020/Replace the Key Fob Battery

Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Isuzu D-Max Mk2 (TF) 2012-2020. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 12, 2026

If the key fob on your Isuzu D-Max (TF, 2012–2020) has gone weak or the central locking has become intermittent, the coin cell inside is almost certainly flat. It’s a quick swap with a CR2032.

Battery First — What You Need

  • A CR2032 coin cell.
  • A small flat screwdriver.

Replacing the Cell

Without keyless entry:

  1. Pull out the mechanical key blade.
  2. Insert a screwdriver and remove the key cover.
  3. Remove the old cell and fit a new CR2032, correct polarity.
  4. Refit the cover and the mechanical key.

With keyless entry (smart key): remove the ring, prise off the cover with a screwdriver, lift out the transmitter and renew the CR2032, then reassemble.

Lost Key or Adding a Spare

A cell swap keeps the existing coding. Key programming requires a diagnostic tool — a replacement must be coded by a dealer or auto locksmith.

If a Fresh Cell Doesn’t Help

  • Check the polarity — an upside-down cell won’t work.
  • Use the key blade to unlock the door in the meantime.
  • Still intermittent? A receiver fault can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

What battery does the Isuzu D-Max key use?

A single CR2032 coin cell.

Do I need to reprogram the key after the swap?

No — the coding is retained for a battery change.

Can I program a new D-Max key myself?

No — programming needs a diagnostic tool (dealer or locksmith).

The fob is dead — can I still get in?

Yes — use the mechanical key blade to unlock the door.

If the fob stopped working after a battery disconnection, see our D-Max battery disconnect/reconnect guide.
