These instructions apply to the Kia Picanto Mk2 (TA) 2011-2017.

If your Kia Picanto (2011–2017) remote only works up close, or the “key low battery” indicator has appeared, the coin cell inside the folding flip key is flat. Replacing it takes a couple of minutes and needs no reprogramming afterwards.
Which battery you need
The TA flip key uses a single CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell — the owner’s manual specifies a 3 volt lithium battery, and CR2032 is the correct type for this remote. Buy a fresh one; old or cheap cells can read low straight away.
How to replace it
- Fold out the metal key blade, or slide the release so you can separate the two halves of the fob.
- Insert a slim, flat tool (a small coin or a plastic trim tool) into the slot on the seam and gently twist to pry the case apart.
- Note how the old cell sits, then lift it out. Avoid touching the new cell’s faces with bare fingers.
- Fit the new CR2032 with the positive (+) side facing up, exactly as the old one sat.
- Press the two halves back together until they click, and fold the key blade away.
- Test the lock and unlock buttons from a few metres away.
Good to know
A flip-key remote does not need to be re-paired after a battery change — the transponder that starts the engine is unaffected. If the remote still will not operate the central locking, the fob itself may need attention, but you can always lock and unlock with the metal blade in the driver’s door.
Frequently asked questions
What battery does a Kia Picanto key fob take?
A CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell. The same type is used across most 2011–2025 Picanto keys.
Do I need to reprogram the key after changing the battery?
No. Replacing the coin cell does not erase the remote’s coding or the immobilizer transponder.
The remote still won’t work — what now?
Check the cell is the right way up and making contact. If it still fails, use the metal key blade to get in and have the fob checked; adding or replacing a lost key is a dealer or auto-locksmith job.
