Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Mazda 3 Mk4 (BP, 2019–present) is a straightforward engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection and the steps Mazda lists for reconnection, plus re-teaching the one-touch windows afterwards.
Where the Battery Is
The 12 V battery is in the engine compartment, under a cover. (Mazda’s i-stop and, where fitted, i-ELOOP systems use this same 12 V battery — there’s no separate owner battery to find.)
Disconnecting
- Turn the ignition on briefly then off (Mazda’s recommended way to settle the systems), and remove the key.
- Loosen the negative (−, black) terminal first and lift the lead clear.
- If removing the battery, loosen the positive (+, red) next, then the hold-down.
Airbag/pretensioner safety: if you’ll be near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners, wait 1 minute after switching off (and allow up to 5 minutes for the system to fully discharge) before going near pyrotechnic parts.
Reconnecting & Re-teaching
- Reconnect positive (+) first, then the negative/earth (−) last; wait about 10 seconds, then refit any connector and the cover, and close the bonnet.
