Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Mazda CX-30 (DM, 2019–present) is a simple engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection and what the car needs re-taught afterwards — the CX-30 needs a couple of systems re-initialising once power is back.
Where the Battery Is
The 12 V battery sits in the engine bay, under a cover. The Skyactiv-G petrol and Skyactiv-D diesel CX-30 has no high-voltage system to worry about.
Disconnecting
- Switch the ignition off, remove the key and wait a minute for the electronics to sleep.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first and tuck the lead aside.
- If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+) next, then the clamp.
Reconnecting & Re-teaching
- Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last.
- Reset the clock; Mazda Connect reloads on its own.
- Re-initialise the one-touch windows — see our CX-30 window guide.
- The i-stop system may need a short period (or a re-initialisation) before it works again — it relearns the battery state over a few drives.
A like-for-like battery doesn’t need coding on the CX-30.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which terminal first on the CX-30?
The negative (−) first, and reconnect it last.
Does the Mazda CX-30 battery need coding?
No — just fit it and re-teach the windows; i-stop relearns on its own.
Will I lose my radio?
No code is normally needed — just reset the clock.
Why won’t my windows auto-close now?
The power cut cleared their learned position. Run the quick re-initialise.
For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the service reminder, see our CX-30 service reset.
